Savage who was assigned to the the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment Company C who jumped on D Day into Normandy and then as a Pathfinder in advance of the other airborne troops during Operation Market Garden. William enlisted at Camp Grant, IL on 1 October 1942 and volunteered for parachutist duty. He was assigned to Company C, 508th PIR. Cpl. Savage was awarded
